FD-7

Portable Spectrodensitometer that performs colour evaluation for the print industry taking into consideration the fluorescence of paper under any illuminant, including D50 (ISO 13655 M1). The FD-7 can be used for standalone measurements, Scan measurements and Light measurements within one versatile device.

  • FWAs measurement for any chosen illuminant, including self-measured illuminants
  • M1-type instruments with Virtual Fluorescence Standard technology (VFS)
  • Lightweight spectrodensitometer for printers
  • ISOCHECK for fast quality control
  • Spot and Scan measurement with a ruler for precise guiding

Measure both density and colour of printed matter for any illuminant even if the substrate contains fluorescent whitening agents (FWA)

The innovative spectrodensitometers FD-7 and FD-5 were the world's first handheld instruments that can measure both density and colour of printed matter for any illuminant even if the substrate contains fluorescent whitening agents (FWA). Testimony to Konica Minolta's innovation and heritage of optical excellence.

The Fluorescent Spectrodensitometers FD-7 and FD-5 are equipped with Konica Minolta's VFS (Virtual Fluorescence Standard). This technology enables colour evaluation that takes into consideration the fluorescence of paper under any illuminant, including D50 (ISO 13655:2009 M1). This technology takes advantage of the optical, sensor and software technology cultivated through Konica Minolta's long experience with colour-measuring instruments to enable virtual measurements for a variety of illuminants while including the influence of fluorescence.

Perfect tool for the colour manager

The FD-7 is the perfect tool to help printers in their daily business. The lightweight FD-7 makes all colour related tasks in the printing industry easier and more reliable.

TARGETMATCH including backing conversion helps printers to achieve the right colour on their production paper.
ISOCHECK enables fast quality control without additional software.

The possibility to measure printing plates can make the additional investment in a plate measurement device obsolete.
DeltaBrightness gives unambigous information about the amount of optical brightener present, allowing for straightforward and fast control of production papers.
The scan measurement functionality allows fast measurements of control strips and profiling charts. Combined with the optional long ruler accessory, a complete print QC can be conducted conducted within seconds.

Corresponds to all Measurement Conditions of ISO 13655 (2009)

The Spectrophotometers FD-5 and FD-7 were the world’s first M1-type instruments, utilizing Konica Minolta’s original VFS (Virtual Fluorescence Standard) to provide measurements corresponding to D50. Only instruments with this technology can measure FWAs for any chosen illuminant, including self-measured illuminants.

Automatic Wavelength Compensation

With spectrophotometers, white calibration is performed as part of the daily work, and this calibrates the spectral reflectance coefficients (vertical axis). The FD-7 and FD-5 are equipped with the industry’s first “Automatic Wavelength Compensation” function which automatically calibrate in the wavelength direction (horizontal axis) when white calibration is performed as part of daily work, greatly improving the reliability of measurement values.

Spot and Scan measurement

In addition to spot measurements, manually scanned measurements are also possible when the FD-7 is connected to a PC. The versatile colour measurement software Catch is shipped with every FD-7 to control the function. A ruler for precise guiding the instrument on the colour patches is included as a standard accessory. A long ruler enabling measurements of strips with a length of up to 50 cm is available as an optional accessory.

Illumination measurement

With the FD-7 the spectral power distribution of the illumination environment under which visual evaluation is performed can be measured. The measured data can be used to get a close correlation between the numerical data and the visual judgment.
