Gloss and Appearance Measurement
Measure the gloss value of the surface of an object and/or analysis the quality of the appearance with our gloss and appearance meters.
Control of gloss is a significant factor in achieving a quality human perception and another area where traceable data and either a robust process or machine vision system can eliminate subjective approval processes, improve product quality and reduce rejects.
Traditional glossmeters measure at one or more of three industry standard angles: 20, 60 and 85 degrees, dependent on the level of gloss. However modern instruments are able to provide additional data about the surface which provides more useful data and an assessment of the surface closer to how a human eye sees. For example it is possible for a surface to have a high and consistent gloss level but a large structure defect like orange peel, so whilst a pass on the gloss value alone, its surface finish would still be considered poor by a human observer.
