Measurement Solutions for Sealants and Adhesives

Colour control and digital colour data communication for sealants and adjacent products

As specification and control of the colour of building materials has improved, the requirements for colour matched or contrasting adhesives and sealants has increased in parallel. As large quantities may be required to compete large commercial projects, batch to batch consistency will be important for the satisfaction of the contractor and the customer.

Konica Minolta measurement instruments and software offer customers a solution for accurate colour control of everything from raw materials to completed products. Colour measurement allows organisations to implement data driven process control and quality control procedures that improve output consistency, and produce accurate colour to specification and within tolerances, saving time and waste.

Digital colour data can be used to expedite the supply process, greatly improving the producer's ability to react to the market, reducing the risks and costs associated with producing, distributing, and maintaining physical standards.

As with most building materials, a spectral instrument will be the preferred solution.

Spectral data is the only way to check for inconstant colour or metamerism which is important as interiors are typically lit by multiple different illuminants and increasingly effect lighting, but also for providing data for colour formulation and matching.

Our benchtop spectrophotometers and colorimeters are manufactured to the highest standards, to provide accuracy and traceability. Benchtop instruments offer the greatest flexibility for all sample types and raw materials including powders, liquids, pastes, and solids at all levels of transparency. Dependent on your requirements or processes, portable instruments can be used to measure dried, cured, or solid samples.

Konica Minolta's team of specialists offers the expertise from hundreds of installations within this field, successfully leveraging measuring instruments and software to assist our customers and their supply chains in improving quality and reducing waste. Our extensive network of authorised service facilities offers swift repairs and provide traceable calibration of Konica Minolta Measuring Instruments year-round.

Benefits

  • Improve certainty of production process, minimising rework, and maximising final finish quality.
  • Reduce costs throughout the production process by measuring and optimising each step in the process.
  • Improve consistency, set realistic and achievable expectations by benchmarking your own and competitor finishes.

Instruments

CM-36dG Benchtop Spectrophotometer
CM-36dG Benchtop Spectrophotometer

The optimum solution for the best possible accuracy and versatility for raw material and finished product measurements. The benchtop spectrophotometer is ideal when data will or may eventually be used for colour formulation.

CM-26d Portable Spectrophotometer
CM-26d Portable Spectrophotometer

Modern portable spectrophotometer for colour measurement of solid samples such as dried product on test cards. It features Konica Minolta's most user-friendly user interface and correlates closely with the CM-36dG when used within the supply chain.

CM-17d Portable Spectrophotometer
CM-17d Portable Spectrophotometer

Portable instrument with vertical alignment and built-in sample viewer camera that allows for precise positioning of measurement aperture. Measure with a 3mm or 8mm aperture including or excluding the impact of surface gloss.

SpectraMagic™ NX2 Software
SpectraMagic™ NX2 Software

SpectraMagic™ NX2 is a colour measurement software package that can be used to interface with Konica Minolta instruments. It provides extended reporting and analysis of colour and colour difference. The user has full control of customisation of templates and reports.

Applications

Colour Measurement of Colour Matched Wood Fillers

By setting tolerances from production samples, the SpectraMagic™ NX2 quality control software can also be used over time for quality control measurements of production, ensuring batch to batch consistency.

Measurement of Grout in Production

By taking a sample from production at specified intervals and applying it to a draw down card, the sample can be quickly and easily measured against the target colour data to check that production is within tolerance. The minimal contact of the portable spectrophotometer CM-700d will provide useful data whilst also easier to clean up as only the aperture plate need be in contact with the sample.

Matching and Measurement for Industrial Customers

Digital colour data represents an opportunity working in the supply chain for items such as front doors, windows and fitted furniture. By formulating colour to specification, agreeing tolerances and communicating colour in a clear and transparent way, a provider of sealants and adhesives can work collaboratively. By providing colour as a service with clear processes, producers can reduce subjective disagreements, deepen supply chain relationships and add value.
